Mr. Rich, the commas around the present participial phrase "attracting…Gingrich" are redundant. The phrase is restrictive. It modifies "a G.O.P. killing field." That indefinite article "a" says that it is not one particular G.O.P. killing field you refer to but one of any number of G.O.P. killing fields.
