One of the bazillion picketings for choice that I have participated in during my 45 years in the Women's Movement.

Gentlepeople: It always pays to know the background of a person with whom you will will interact. Below are two Web sites that outline the newspaper career of Denise Palmer, the publisher of the Tribune.

At Suncoast Tiger Bay, I asked the Tribune top political reporter--whose name I always forget-- how it happened that the Tribune had chosen a woman for the top job because women have had trouble getting to the top in newspapers and even getting the prestige jobs in the newsroom.

He said that he did not know how it happened but that the conservative, aristocratic, traditional men that owned the Tribune picked her. I don't know what spirit of egalitarianism descended on them--J. Steward Bryan, one of this family was publisher much of the time that my family lived in Beach Park in Tampa, but hallelujah for woman kind.

When you read these articles, you will see what massive competence Ms. Palmer must have to be the publisher of the Baltimore Sun--that's where H.L. Mencken was a reporter and columnist--and the Tribune.

When you write Ms. Palmer a note, for God's sake have an English teacher check it if you are shaky in punctuation. Ms. Palmer comes from a writing culture. Newspaper people are not perfect in their grammar and punctuation (see my two blogs to get an idea of how newspaper people still struggle with grammar and punctuation: Grammargrinch.blogspot critiques the grammar of the NYT and the Washington Post; BayAreaGrammargrinch.blogspot.com analyzes the Bay- Area publications' grammar and punctuation. lee

PS: I had an email spit back that I sent as palmer@tampatribune.com; so the email for her must be dpalmer@tampatribune.com.

I think the email for the Trib tends to be @tampatrib.com (not tribune)
