Wrangling with the Board of Sarasota County

Board Member Brown has denied that Hamilton was Sarasota County Schools' lobbyest. I wrote the board member that maybe I was mistaken. According to Hamilton's Web page Sarasota was a client; see below. Then he transferred to Mixon and Associates, which has one to five employees according to its Web site, so it's strange that it would need a consultant. Sarasota County appeared in Mixon's list of clients along with all the others Hamilton had listed on his site.

You will see that Hillsborough County was one of Hamilton's clients. I learned from the Community Affairs people as public information that he got $65,000 for the job. A reader has written me that Ms. Elia has since bumped that up to $96,000, which is pure craziness in economic hard times when the board and Elia are talking about furloughing teachers.

After I get Sarasota County squared away, I will deal with Manatee (apparently where Ms. Cropsley has suffered from the board attorney's and principal Mike Rios' attempts to trap her into a firing offense). Then comes Hillsborough.

My darling baby daughter came over for Mother's Day and brought me candy, champagne, and taught me how to use the fax on my printer. Now I can fax city, state, and county officials to hell and yonder.

What more could a mother want on Mother's Day than that her fourth and baby child has grown up to be an insurance VP in charge of the company's computer program-testing apparatus and makes twice what her mother made as a full college professor? Life: could anything be better than the adventure it is every single day? lee

Ms. Brown: regarding our emails about Dr. James Hamilton's acting lobbyist for Sarasota County: you said that he did not.

Yet a review of my files shows below that Dr. Hamilton lists Sarasota County on his Web site below as a client. The school clients listed he transferred to Mixon and Associates when he became its consultant. The Hamilton site below lists the Sarasota School Board as a client on 1/06/09.

Logic suggests that Dr. Hamilton cannot have had this lobbyist job for the county and the Mixon transfer without there being a record of the situation in your files.

I therefore renew my public information requests for

1. The ads and their venues that Sarasota County used (a) to hire the lobbyist and (b ) Mixon and Associates.

2. Copies of the applicants' submissions for these two positions in addition to those of Dr. Hamilton;

3. Copy of the board secretary's notes on these two hiring actions;

3. Copy of the board's equal-employment opportunity statement;

4. A list of the schools' Federal grants.

Thank you,

Elia showed up at a golf tournament bloated big as a whale and showing off big thighs as white as chalk.
