Maybe Elia is finally feeling guilty about stealing from the taxpayers. Maybe she finally realizes nobody likes her. She is probably pretty lonely at the top with no friends and surrounded by people who want to see her fail. This is probably why she is giving up her bonus this year. She realizes that she's made too many enemies and dropped the f bomb too many times, so she is remorseful and wants to try to buy her way back into Heaven.

I think she realizes that her raking in tax money at the rate she does causes revulsion from the people who have to pay school taxes only to see them disappear into the pockets of administrators like Mr. Otero, who treated the Alafia mothers like dog pookie when they called him about Ms. Smith’s misconduct that they feared injured their children.
Le Otero had a clerk go to the phone and tell one mother that he had heard enough from the Alafia mothers and wouldn’t talk to her. How’s that for showing contempt for parents?
The board and administration caterwaul about their wanting parents to be involved in their children’s education; then we see how much the administration and board want parents’ involvement in the Alafia debacle. Ms. Elia lauded Smith on the night that the Alafia parents came to the board meeting to protest; she implied the Alafia parents were a bunch of whacked-out trouble makers. Steve Hegarty and April Griffin lobbied the parents to be quiet. I wish the parents had not been susceptible to such manipulation. Hegarty and Griffin were tamping down the parents’ anger so as to save the franchise. Griffin poses as a friend of teachers and students, but that is merely a screen for her allegiance to the board.
The press was onto the case, and Ms. Elia can’t stand bad press.
Mr. Otero is or was in charge of Ms. Smith, the runaway principal. He was responsible for listening to the mothers who called him so that he could figure out how to deal with Ms. Smith. He turned the mothers away and disrespected them. Not one board member rebuked him.
What does Otero think the state pays him to do? Does the state pay him to see to the needs of the students and parents, or does it pay him to loll around on the taxpayers’ dime and insult frantic parents of students?
Two years ago I stood in the back of the room when the teachers converged on the school board to complain about Elia’s downloading on them an extra class without pay or without even consulting them. I asked the ones I stood close to what they thought of Elia as superintendent. They said that the only administrator who would have been worse than Elia would have been Otero. I was skeptical at first, but now I begin to believe them after hearing of Mr. Otero’s mistreatment of the Alafia mothers. lee

I have to differ strongly with one point. There is NO WAY that Elia is THE MOST HATED person in Hillsborough County. I realize she strove mightily. I do 'git git git' that. BUT, there is NO WAY.
There is such stiff competition for this title that I fear that EVEN the evil la elia-essence could only place perhaps somewhere between twenty five and fifty. NO WAY.
My god there's brian blair, david gee, ken hagan, kevin white .... among women there is ronda storms, pam iorio, janet weaver-coats ....
COME ON, the competition is FIERCE.
Anyone know why Clarence Holley is suing her???

Here's my guess: Elia gave up her bonus because there is a real likelihood that she is going to cut teacher benefits, pay, and/or jobs once these new cuts come around. She already polled the teachers on what to cut next.
How would it look to take a bonus if that is what's in store? Only time will tell. I doubt her donation had only altruistic motives.
I say put Otero's wife on that list of hated people. Every since she was promoted to Supervisor of Guidance Services (cough, nepotism, cough, cough) she's been wielding her power like a drunk pirate captain.
While the other folks are certainly not great human beings--NOT ONE of them has the potential ( realized and not yet rwalized) to wreak utter distruction on current stdents' and teachers' lives!
As far as Elia's poll goe.... questions were not that relevant and certainly vague enough for WIDE interpretation of the response!!! Haven't seen a list of those suggestions requested from teachers, either!
You people are so freakin' clueless. You postulate and spout these so-called facts that have no basis in reality. You are clearly delusional.
You want to know why Elia REALLY gave up her bonus? In executive session while negotiating the current contracts with our labor unions, April went after Elia's bonus. The rest of the board was shell shocked but could not argue against April's move. Even Candy responded: "That's not a bad idea". Elia gave up her bonus so the rest of the board would not go along with April in PERMANENTLY restructuring her bonus. It was an out for Lamb, Edgecomb, Kudell, and Faliero.
Lee, you have no visibility to what is happening yet you believe that you know what is going on. Your cluelessness, ineffectiveness and delusions of grandieur come clearer by the day.
Well said. No one here will respond, though.
