Subject: [Lee Drury De Cesare's Casting-Room Couch] New comment on The Boys Have Stopped Playing Marbles.

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "The Boys Have Stopped Playing Marbles":

What type of person defends the top dogs? That must be an ass kisser. Most normal people defend the little people, the poor, the hungry, the downtrodden. It amazes me that there are people who defend Elia and the school board and school officials. Those people make tons of money, and when you are in the public eye and make a lot of money, you have to take heat. What kind of person identifies with the overlords instead of the downtrodden?

I find it hard to believe that I get hits from a few people who are indignant about my criticizing the school board and administration for their petty crime against the public and against decency.

I think such people as defend the power and privilege of the few may be identifying with that power and privilege vicariously. Many times such people are themselves powerless and feel inferior, so they want to be like the top dogs and be big and important and able to lord it over the average person.

But you can never tell what makes people think the way they do.

There were a lot of people who were gaga over Hitler. He killed six million Jewish men, women, and children, but way too many people—and not all in the Gestapo--thought he was just swell. lee

Since I mentioned your name on another blog, thought I would send you a copy for your thoughts. Here it is:

(from St. Pete Times article):
I'd eliminate the School Board meetings altogether before I'd eliminate the Math Homework Hotline," said board member Candy Olson, after learning at a recent workshop that the district is paying about $250 per hour to broadcast the meetings live with two replays. "This is not the best use of our resources at this time."

How about eliminating the television commercial ads for School Choice running on BayNews9 that contained no real substance? How much did THAT cost the district?

School Choice is publicized well through print media, newsletters, websites, post card mailings, and the automated phone system. How much does a 15-20 second ad (with only music for audio, BTW) cost the district every time it runs?

When it comes to matters that affect students, the district always seems to be looking at the bottom line. But when it somes to Mrs. Elia's pet project, School Choice, the budget seems endless.

Thanks to Mrs. Elia for her tireless commitment to promoting school choice, regardless of the financial climate. She is now the recipient of the Dr. Carlo Rodriguez Champion of School Choice Award and also a half scholarship to Nova Southeastern University for the Doctoral Program (this should make Lee DeCesare very happy).

I forgot...why can't we afford the Math Homework Hotline?

As the child of Holocaust survivors, I can tell you, Lee, that in most cases, when you compare people to Hitler and the Nazis, you undermine your argument. The likely-corruption and probable-power grabs of the school administration are no where near as deplorable as that of the Nazis. The analogy is so out of balance that it loses its effectiveness.
